As the M.2 slot offers four PCIe lanes (x4 PCIe 3.0 and 4GB/s), the experiment worked and improved the graphical performance of the laptop. However, the RTX 3090 is usually inserted into an x16 PCIe 3.0 slot (16GB/s), so the performance fell well short of what the card is actually capable of. Even so, the modded laptop managed to score 14,008 points on 3DMark TimeSpy.
